Max Verstappen finds it increasingly difficult to say goodbye to his family before race weekends. He shares this in an extensive and exclusive interview with FORMULA 1 Magazine. His little daughter Lily sometimes stands crying at the door. At the same time, he realizes that it is a temporary phase, he adds. Laughing: “At some point she will say: ‘Dad, please go away.”

– What are you most proud of? Are those titles, victories, certain memories?
“That is the little one at home. That is the most fun and most important thing. Our daughter Lily is my greatest prize. Family is the most important thing to me anyway.”

– Do you also find it harder now to be away from home a lot?
“Yes, that is starting now. This morning, for example, when I flew here, the little one was at home by the elevator when I got in to go downstairs. And then the doors close, yes, that is not a nice feeling. She had just woken up. I had taken her out of bed and cuddled her a bit and then I had to go. Those are not nice moments when you have to leave. You know it comes with it. And I know I did the same when I was little and my father left home. Crying and such. My father also always found that difficult.”
Laughing: “But this is a phase that comes with it. At some point it will turn around and she won’t want anything to do with me anymore. Then she will say: ‘Dad, please go away’.”
