Max Verstappen was pleasantly surprised by second place in the Hungarian Grand Prix. It was his second consecutive podium finish and fourth overall this season. “This comes unexpectedly.”

On Sunday afternoon at the Hungaroring, the Dutchman only had to concede to winner Lando Norris. He didn’t see that coming, Verstappen, who started fourth, said in an initial reaction after the finish. “But we worked hard for it. The start was reasonable, after the first pit stop I had a nice fight with Lewis Hamilton and the team also made some good strategic decisions.”
The overtaking maneuver on Hamilton was one of the highlights of the Hungarian GP. Verstappen dived to the inside of the Ferrari driver and brought his car to a timely stop next to that of his rival. “I saw an opportunity and that was my only chance. Fortunately, the brakes worked well.”

Earlier this season, Verstappen finished third in the Canadian GP. This was followed by a second place in Austria, and in the race prior to Hungary, Verstappen finished P3 in Belgium. This made it his fourth podium finish of the season.
