Lewis Hamilton could already smell his tenth pole position at the Hungaroring, but at the last minute, the seven-time world champion was outdone by his compatriot Lando Norris. “We let pole slip through our fingers,” the Ferrari driver admitted in his first reaction after qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Hamilton ultimately had to settle for second place. Behind Norris, but ahead of teammate Charles Leclerc. The nine poles he previously scored in Hungary, he did so with a Mercedes power unit.
“It went well all weekend and we were strong in qualifying too,” Hamilton told interviewer David Coulthard on the grid in an initial reaction.

Lewis Hamilton: “For some reason, we went out first at the end of Q3, which wasn’t the right decision. But apart from that, the grip wasn’t there either. Not for Charles either. The Hungaroring is clearly a track I love, but this is a shame. Tomorrow will be a tough day for us.”
