Cadillac driver Sergio Pérez expects Aston Martin to make a significant step forward this weekend during the Hungarian GP. The British team is introducing a comprehensive upgrade package for the AMR26, after having deliberately delayed its development earlier to come up with a major update. Rumours are now circulating in the paddock that the revamped car will deliver a substantial performance gain.

Pérez believes Aston Martin will get closer to Cadillac with this. “Absolutely,” he responded when asked. “I think they will make a big step. It’s clearly a very strong team. We expect them to catch up and make significant progress.” Teammate Valtteri Bottas is also curious about the revamped Aston Martin, although he looks forward to it with mixed feelings.

“Many rumours are circulating,” the Finn stated. “Most indicate that it’s a big step forward. But we won’t know until the car hits the track. One of the rumours I’ve heard is that only the front suspension has remained the same and everything else is new. We’ll see. I’m very curious about it, but at the same time also a bit afraid that Cadillac will end up at the back if they indeed make such a big step. Ultimately, however, we just have to focus on our own work. That’s where we need to put our energy.”
