After several mediocre starts in 2026, the Dutchman got off to a remarkably good start and immediately overtook polesitter Kimi Antonelli. He lacked the power to keep Antonelli and Charles Leclerc behind him afterwards, before the race was neutralized; George Russell met his downfall in the first lap due to a collision with Lewis Hamilton.
