The drivers commemorated the late Anthoine Hubert and Dilano van ’t Hoff ahead of the Belgian GP. The annual ‘Racing for Anthoine’ run brought the entire paddock together to reflect on the two drivers, who both crashed in the Eau Rouge and Raidillon corner combination, four years apart.
The commemoration was led by Pierre Gasly. The Frenchman lays flowers at Spa-Francorchamps every year for his friend Anthoine Hubert. He also previously drove for a long time with a tribute to the Formula 2 driver on his helmet and car. Wearing dark blue T-shirts with the text ‘Racing for Anthoine’ on them, several drivers ran a lap around Spa-Francorchamps on the Thursday before the race weekend to pause at both the accident sites of Hubert and Dilano van ’t Hoff on the circuit.
Hubert died in 2019 as a result of a serious accident during the Formula 2 race at Spa-Francorchamps. In the second lap, the Frenchman crashed heavily at Raidillon. His BWT Arden car was then hit full on the side by Juan Manuel Correa. Four years later, Dutch driver Dilano van ’t Hoff crashed at the same section of Spa-Francorchamps.
