After the season opener in Australia, Formula 1 travels to Asia this weekend for the Chinese GP. The Shanghai International Circuit is also the setting for the first sprint race of the year. The weather has significantly influenced F1 sessions in China in the past. For example, in 2024, it poured down in Shanghai during sprint qualifying. This year, the many visitors to this second round of the championship are heading for a more pleasant weekend. The current weather forecasts are favorable for Max Verstappen and company: it promises to be a sunny first sprint weekend at the Shanghai International Circuit.

On the opening day, Friday, the first free practice and the subsequent sprint qualifying will be held under sunny conditions. According to the weather radar, the chance of precipitation is currently 0 percent. The sun should shine over the circuit all day and the temperature will rise to a maximum of 15 degrees Celsius. So it is a bit chilly. Consequently, the track temperature is expected to be between 20 and 25 degrees. Tire supplier Pirelli therefore chose a neutral selection of compounds: the C2, C3 and C4.

That trend continues into the weekend. On Saturday as well, the chance of rain is nil and it remains relatively cool on and around the circuit. Little cloud cover is expected and the maximum temperature is 16 degrees Celsius. Finally, it should also remain dry during the Grand Prix on Sunday. The mercury will hover around 15 degrees Celsius, although it promises to be a bit cloudier during the main event. The chance of rain is negligible for now.
