Weather forecast Australian GP: Sunny outlook during the first race of the year

The new Formula 1 season is about to begin! This coming weekend, the lights will go out for the first time in 2026, and the drivers will race the opening race in Melbourne, Australia. Last year, eventual world champion Lando Norris won this Grand Prix on the other side of the world during treacherous, wet conditions. Can we expect the same weather conditions this year? A year ago, the Australian race weekend was plagued by rain showers. Due to the wet track surface, Isack Hadjar, among others, went off the track as early as the formation lap. However, it does not seem that these chaotic scenes will be repeated this coming weekend. Plenty of sunshine is predicted for the first race weekend of 2026.

On the opening day, Friday, in Melbourne, it will remain predominantly sunny. During the first free practice, there is still a chance of a small cloud over the circuit, with temperatures around 21 degrees. For the second free practice, the weather forecast is even better. The sun will shine brightly on the Albert Park Circuit, with a gentle breeze from the southwest.

On Saturday, the chance of cloud cover increases during the third free practice, although it will remain dry in Melbourne then as well. It will be around 19 degrees Celsius. The temperature then increases slightly for qualifying, at 16:00 local time in the afternoon. There will be clouds then too, but the rain will stay away. During the first Grand Prix of the year, on Sunday, the sun will shine brightly, and for the fans present, it will be a matter of applying plenty of sunscreen thanks to the predicted 24 degrees Celsius. A gentle breeze from the southwest will also blow over the circuit then.
