Max Verstappen may get the chance to take revenge during the next edition of the 24 Hours of Nürburgring. Sources from the paddock in Montréal report that no Grands Prix are planned during the weekend of the endurance race next year either. Verstappen’s team was in contention for the overall victory for a long time last weekend but retired due to technical failure.

Max Verstappen’s participation in the recent 24 Hours of Nürburgring completely shook up the endurance classic. Visitor and viewership records were broken. The four-time F1 champion received nothing but praise from his fellow competitors, who were all grateful that he put GT3 racing on the map in this way. His presence not only spotlighted the 24-hour race but also the participants and the broader GT3 sport.
Retirement
However, a good result ultimately did not materialize. Verstappen and company led for a long time and seemed to be heading for the overall victory towards the end of the race. The Red Bull driver played a decisive role in this; during his stints, he showed several impressive overtaking maneuvers. With three hours remaining, disaster struck. Due to a broken driveshaft, teammate Daniel Juncadella had to steer the Mercedes-AMG GT3 back to the pit lane – not long after, the retirement was confirmed.

Verstappen has already hinted on social media that he wants to take revenge next year. “We will be back,” he responded to a message from teammate Jules Gounon. Even before the retirement, Verstappen stated in the live broadcast of the race that he wants to participate more often, ‘provided his schedule allows it’. In that respect, he may be lucky. Although it is still unknown what the F1 calendar for 2027 will look like, De Telegraaf reports that no Grands Prix are scheduled for the weekend of May 29 and 30. That is when the 55th edition of the 24 Hours of Nürburgring is on the program.
