Verstappen back in action at Nürburgring, lead intact with six hours to go

Max Verstappen has once again taken to the circuit for his third stint in the 24 Hours of Nürburgring. After the morning session of Lucas Auer, the F1 driver took over the wheel around 08:45. This broke the fixed rotation for Verstappen Racing; for the past eighteen hours, Daniel Juncadella had followed the Austrian. The team is still leading, although the gap with sister team RAVENOL is less than one minute.

Verstappen took the lead in the dead of night at the Nürburgring, when after half an hour of dueling with Maro Engel he drove to the front position. Jules Gounon and Lucas Auer then held their ground at the front, after which the Dutchman got back into the Mercedes-AMG GT3 in the morning. The #80 Mercedes – so far the only serious challenger to Verstappen Racing – entered the pit lane at the same time. The gap between the two teams was only five seconds at that moment.

Verstappen is expected to drive another double stint, which means he will be behind the wheel for about two and a half hours. So another driver change is scheduled before 11:30 in the #3 Mercedes. The team has already completed more than one hundred and fifteen laps, but the race – at the start of Verstappen’s third stint – is only three-quarters complete. The remaining teams still have to survive until 15:00 this afternoon.
