Valtteri Bottas delighted about new F1 season: ‘See no reason to complain’

Valtteri Bottas looks at the new generation of F1 cars with a positive outlook, despite ongoing criticism from the rest of the field. The Finn, who made his comeback this season with newcomer Cadillac, emphasizes that he is mainly enjoying the fact that he is back on the grid. After three years at Sauber, Bottas ended up on the reserve bench at Mercedes last season. Cadillac signed him because of his years of experience in the sport.

The sweeping regulatory changes of 2026 have led to complaints about complex energy management. Max Verstappen, one of the biggest critics of the increased electrification, stated in Japan that he openly doubts his future in the sport. According to Bottas, however, such teething problems are part of a new phase in Formula 1. “It’s different,” the down-to-earth Finn admitted to the press in Suzuka. “But every time something changes, there is always someone who complains, especially in the early stages.”

No reason to complain

For Cadillac, the first races were primarily a baptism of fire. Bottas and teammate Sergio Pérez were mainly focused on reaching the finish line and collecting as much data as possible. Regarding the new regulations: “I think we are slowly starting to get used to it,” the ten-time Grand Prix winner emphasized. “We are still trying to optimize the entire engine package. But it is certainly different.” The biggest challenge? “As a driver, you have to think more. Simply more things can go wrong with the setup, whether it’s qualifying or the race. “But that applies to everyone,” he put into perspective.

For Bottas, however, the pleasure of his return to the premier class prevails. “For me, the most important thing – or actually the very most important thing – is that I am just very happy to be back, happy to be racing in Formula 1 again,” he concluded contentedly. “I see no reason to complain. It’s different, but I enjoy the car. The cars are fun to drive, the races are good. You might have to keep an eye on things a bit more here and there. It’s just different.”
