Richard Verschoor has been part of McLaren’s development program since last winter. At the British racing team, he focuses on the Hypercar project. He will also participate in the European Le Mans Series. Now he gets an extra racing weekend in his schedule for Formula E, where he will drive the T001 for the first time.
‘First experience’
He told the official Formula E website that he is very much looking forward to participating in the rookie test. “It’s great to join Lola Yamaha ABT for the rookie test in Madrid. Driving this car will be my first experience in a Formula E car. I look forward to learning and making progress together with the team,” said Verschoor.
Lola team principal Mark Preston praises Verschoor for his fast and professional attitude. “We are very happy that Richard is joining us for the rookie test. He is a fast and promising driver, who we are sure will be a great asset to the team in Madrid.” Furthermore, Hugh Barter – Lola’s regular simulator and test driver – will also participate in the rookie test.

The rookie test
The event offers young talents a chance to drive in a Formula E car. The test will be held one day after the actual Formula E race; which takes place on Saturday, March 21. Each team lets two rookies drive. The goal of this test is to allow talented drivers from different classes to gain experience and potentially attract the attention of teams.
For the 25-year-old Verschoor, the rookie test comes at a good moment. Next season, Formula E introduces new cars and teams are busy selecting drivers. With his experience and knowledge of circuits and tire management, Verschoor can show that he is skilled enough for Formula E, where energy management is crucial.
