Organization Overhaul: Red Bull Implements Changes in Technical Leadership

The technical department of Red Bull Racing is being overhauled. After the earlier exodus from the team – with the recently announced departure of Max Verstappen’s race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase as the latest in a now long series – new Head of Performance Andrea Landi will strengthen the team from July 1. Veteran Ben Waterhouse meanwhile takes on the expanded leadership role of Chief Performance and Design Engineer.

Red Bull is making major changes to the technical leadership of the team. In an official press release, the team announces that Ben Waterhouse will immediately take on the leadership role of Chief Performance and Design Engineer. Waterhouse – who has been with the Austrian team since 2014 – thus reports directly to technical director Pierre Waché. Since 2017, he has already been active as Head of Performance Engineering.

In addition to Waterhouse’s promotion, Red Bull is also bringing in a new key figure. Racing Bulls engineer Andrea Landi is moving to the sister team and will start as Head of Performance from July 1. Landi in turn reports to Waterhouse. At Racing Bulls, the Italian worked as Deputy Technical Director.

Exodus

Red Bull hopes that the changes made within the technical department will “support the team’s long-term technical ambitions. The changes reflect the ongoing focus on developing internal talent and attracting leading expertise from across the sport.” The changes in technical leadership follow the earlier exodus from the team. Key figures such as Rob Marshall, Will Courtenay, Jonathan Wheatley, and Adrian Newey had already moved to the competition earlier.
