The Canadian GP already promises to be an interesting spectacle. Everything points to some drops falling during the race in Montreal. On Saturday, the FIA already issued an official weather warning. Many drivers are holding their breath; the new cars for 2026 have faced a lot of criticism in recent months, but in the rain, they may be even less predictable. Red Bull team principal Laurent Mekies therefore expects a radio storm.

On Saturday, the Frenchman was already asked about his predictions for the Grand Prix. He also assumes that Max Verstappen and company will not keep it dry. “Whatever happens, it will be a huge learning experience for everyone,” Mekies said. “You will hear many entertaining conversations on the radio because it is new for everyone,” he grinned. During the sprint race on Saturday, there were already plenty of juicy radio messages to hear in the battle between the two Mercedes drivers.

“It’s going to be tough,” Mekies continued in a serious tone. “It’s about the combination of grip and power, or no grip but power. It will be very difficult, but sooner or later we have to race with these cars in the rain, and that will be exciting to see.” Several drivers expressed their concerns about how a possible rain race will turn out. “There will probably be quite a few problems throughout the field,” warned Oscar Piastri. Max Verstappen also added his two cents. “It can easily become dangerous because if the tires are too cold, it’s like driving on ice,” said the four-time world champion.
