Also, world champion Lando Norris expressed his mixed feelings about the recent regulation changes in Formula 1 during a McLaren media session in Miami. The British driver acknowledges that steps have been taken in the right direction. “But it is difficult to go much further. When you try to fix certain problems, you automatically expose others.”

The McLaren driver states ahead of the Miami GP that several drivers had hoped for more drastic steps. “We all would have liked more in the direction that has been taken.”

The expectation is therefore that the relative strengths in the races will largely remain intact for the time being. According to Norris, small improvements will mainly be noticeable in qualifying, while the races themselves will change little for now. “Qualifying should move more towards a pure qualifying round, where you can push fully. That is definitely positive.”

Patience necessary
In the longer term, Formula 1 is explicitly looking forward to more drastic changes in later seasons. Norris emphasized that patience is necessary. “We should be happy with the number of changes that have been implemented. Yes, we would have liked to see more, but that takes time. But if you ask me whether I enjoy driving older cars more, the honest answer is: yes. It is hard to say that this generation offers the same driving pleasure,” said the Brit from McLaren.
Besides the regulatory discussions, Lando Norris also addressed McLaren’s current sporting situation. The team is introducing extensive updates in Miami and later in Canada, around which high expectations revolve. Norris tempered those expectations somewhat but showed cautious optimism. “Just because we talk about a new car doesn’t mean we suddenly gain a second per lap. However, we have confidence in the steps we are taking and in the way new parts usually function for us.”
