Jeroen Bleekemolen on mental tic ‘British aristocrat’ Russell: ‘He is a bit broken’

George Russell is down after the Canadian Grand Prix. A technical problem threw his race in the trash, but it got worse when he also came into full conflict with his own teammate Kimi Antonelli at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. In the new episode of Formula 1 Paddock Talk, reporter Frank Woestenburg and driver Jeroen Bleekemolen immediately sink their teeth into it.

Woestenburg kicks off with a sharp characterization. “Russell has the appearance of some British aristocrat.” And that’s exactly the problem, Bleekemolen thinks. Because after his retirement, Russell appeared neatly in front of the camera to explain everything in detail, including the observation that ‘the gods don’t want him in this fight.’ Bleekemolen is brief about it: “Yes, stop that. You don’t want to see that at all. Come on, fist on the table!”

Woestenburg recognizes the pattern. Russell expresses everything perfectly, admits where it stands, remains civilized, and that is exactly what distinguishes him from the champions he is trying to beat. “What Max and Kimi also have is that fire in their eyes. And he is a bit of the British diplomat.” Bleekemolen sees a driver who has the means to win: best car, best engine, but seems stuck in his own head. “I think he is a bit broken.”
