Jos Verstappen has given a health update after his heavy crash during the Rally of Wallonia on Saturday morning. The former Formula 1 driver, along with his co-driver Jasper Vermeulen, rolled over during the opening special stage of the weekend (see also the video below), but both occupants emerged from the incident without injuries.

The accident occurred on a treacherous right-hand bend in the Belgian rally, where Verstappen was participating in a Belgian Rally Championship event. The Skoda Fabia RS Rally2 went off the road and came to a stop upside down after contact with a pole. Jos Verstappen: “It was a right-hand bend that I had to take in fourth gear. It was dusty and there was gravel on the road surface. I think I went into the corner a bit too fast and at the end, the car broke out.”
‘Glad we got away with it well’
According to Verstappen, after breaking out, the car was thrown to the side. “Then we hit a pole. That spun the car around and then we ended up on the roof.”
The father of four-time world champion Max Verstappen particularly emphasized his gratitude for the safety of modern rally cars. “The most important thing is that Jasper and I got out of the car safely. It was a hard hit, but this once again shows how safe these cars are. I’m glad we got away with it well.”
