VIDEO: 24-hour debut Verstappen is a fact, Dutchman aggressive out of the starting blocks

Max Verstappen has officially made his debut in the 24 Hours of Nürburgring. After an hour of racing, teammate Daniel Juncadella handed over the Mercedes-AMG GT3 to the Dutchman. The Spaniard had managed to maintain fourth place, keeping Verstappen Racing still in the leading group. The four-time F1 champion then launched aggressively from the start and immediately began the chase for the #7 Lamborghini ahead of him.

After an hour, the entire Nürburgring watched as Verstappen climbed behind the wheel of his Mercedes. Juncadella was relieved within minutes by the driver from Limburg, who came out of the pits in tenth place. He immediately focused his visor on the #7 Lamborghini ahead of him. Meanwhile, the Ferrari from Kondo Racing, the team of among others Thierry Vermeulen, was leading.

Verstappen worked remarkably fiercely in the chase for the Lamborghini – perhaps a bit too fiercely, judged the German commentators. “Risk management,” was the advice. And not without reason. During the pursuit, Verstappen went airborne with all four wheels after a hill and flew towards the guardrail. The F1 driver skillfully absorbed the impact, although he briefly ended up on the grass beside the track. A collision with the guardrail was avoided.

On the straight, he still gained one position by overtaking the #26 Mercedes. Not long after, the Lamborghini also had to give way, and he moved up to P8. He is expected to take both the second and third stints and a driver change will only take place around 18:00.
