Norris and Piastri look forward to milestone: ‘Privilege to race for McLaren’

McLaren will race its thousandth Grand Prix in Formula 1 during the upcoming Monaco GP. Sixty years ago, Bruce McLaren first competed under his own racing flag, coincidentally also during a race weekend in the principality. The current line-up, consisting of world champion Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, looks forward to representing the team during this milestone. McLaren will also appear at the start with a special livery.

“It’s a very special weekend for us because we are celebrating such an incredible milestone,” said an enthusiastic Norris. “The livery looks fantastic, and where better to celebrate this than during one of the most iconic races on the calendar, at the place where the team raced its first Grand Prix? I am very proud to have been able to contribute to McLaren’s rich history.”

A privilege

In eight seasons, Norris has clearly left his mark on the British racing team. Since last year, he has been the McLaren driver with the most Grands Prix to his name. Moreover, he became the team’s eighth world champion and helped the papayas to two more constructor titles. “McLaren is a team I looked up to as a child, and it is a privilege to represent the men and women who make up this team during their thousandth Grand Prix,” he concluded.

Teammate Oscar Piastri has now raced 73 Grands Prix for the Woking-based team and, like Norris, was co-responsible for the last two constructor titles. He too is looking forward to the special milestone in Monaco. “I’m very happy that we are going out on track with this special livery,” he added. “A thousand Grands Prix is a huge achievement for the team, and it is a privilege to represent McLaren on this occasion. The car looks fantastic, and it feels fitting that this celebration takes place at the place where the team first participated in a World Championship race sixty years ago. We will do everything we can to bring home a trophy this weekend and celebrate this milestone appropriately. Here’s to another thousand – I look forward to racing for McLaren for many more years.”
