Kimi Antonelli is the new leader in the World Championship standings after his second consecutive victory. The young Italian from Mercedes was naturally elated after his triumph in Japan. He is now the youngest driver in Formula 1 history to lead a World Championship. “That feels pretty good. It is still too early to think about the title, but we are on the right track.”

Antonelli started the race at Suzuka from pole, but had a dramatic start and fell far back. “It was a terrible start. I don’t know exactly what happened, but I now have a few weeks to practice with the clutch. I really need to improve in that area, because you can easily lose races this way,” the Italian told interviewer Damon Hill.

Antonelli acknowledged that the safety car worked in his favor. “It made my life a lot easier. After that, the speed of the car was just incredible.”
