Netflix will soon broadcast its first F1 race live. The streaming giant is joining forces with competitor Apple TV and will bring the Canadian Grand Prix to American subscribers in May. Since 2026, Apple has held the exclusive broadcasting rights for the premier class in America. With this collaboration, the Netflix docuseries Drive to Survive, which contributes to the unprecedented popularity of Formula 1 in the United States, is also coming to Apple TV.

An F1 deal between Netflix and Apple TV is striking, as both companies compete in the same streaming market. Eddy Cue, senior vice president of Services at Apple, emphasizes that it is an unexpected but strategic collaboration. “We are incredibly happy to announce something that no one expected,” he responded in an official press release. “Netflix has played a crucial role in the rise of Formula 1 since the launch of Drive to Survive, and we are delighted to make this F1 content more widely available to new and existing American fans.”
Live sports on Netflix
Netflix, in turn, gets the chance to broadcast an F1 race live. The company has been focusing more and more on live sports in recent years. When the American broadcasting rights went up for sale again in 2025, it was rumored that the streaming service might compete. However, in the end, Apple came out on top. Reportedly, the tech giant pays about 140 million dollars per season, significantly more than the 90 million dollars that ESPN – a subsidiary of Disney – paid per season.

Apple signed a five-year deal with the sport and is offering all races from this year via streaming service Apple TV+. The collaboration follows the success of F1: The Movie, the blockbuster starring Hollywood star Brad Pitt as a fictional Formula 1 driver, which was co-produced by Apple. In addition to broadcasting the regular Formula 1 sessions, Apple is also integrating the sport into other parts of the company, such as Apple News, Apple Maps, Apple Music, Apple Sports and Apple Fitness+. The company wants to firmly anchor Formula 1 in the lives of American fans.
