Max Verstappen has 'unfinished business' at Nürburgring: 'I still want to win that race'

Max Verstappen is certainly not done with his adventures at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. The Dutchman drove his very first 24-hour race on the infamous German circuit last weekend. For a long time, Max Verstappen, together with his team, had victory in sight at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, until fate struck three hours before the end of the race. Due to a broken driveshaft, the #3 Mercedes-AMG GT3 of the Dutch world champion retired, just after teammate Daniel Juncadella had taken the wheel.

Still, Verstappen mainly enjoyed his adventure at the Nordschleife, as he again explains in Canada. “Overall, it was just a great weekend and I really enjoyed it,” says the Dutch world champion. “Of course, it was my first big endurance race, and everything went really well. The car was in good condition, I think we executed it very well.”

“Unfortunately, in the end, it remains a mechanical sport, and we were unlucky,” Verstappen continues. “That cost us the victory, of course, because until that moment we had everything under control. But the whole experience – driving in the rain, the changing conditions, sharing the car with my teammates – was something I really enjoyed.”

Back to the Nürburgring

In addition, the Nürburgring chapter is certainly not closed for the world champion. “I do feel that there is still something unfinished. I want to win the race (at the Nürburgring, ed.), so I would like to return. But the F1 calendar has to allow that, of course. It is definitely a race I want to do more often.”
