Adrian Newey is in his first season as team principal of Aston Martin, but so far it has been anything but smooth. After driving only a few laps during the test days in Barcelona and Bahrain, the British team experienced three retirements in two Grand Prix races. Only Lance Stroll was able to officially finish his race in Australia, but with a gap of fifteen laps to race winner George Russell.

One of the problems is the severe vibrations on the AMR26, which caused Alonso in China to have ‘difficulty feeling my hands and feet’ after 35 laps. Newey even warned of ‘risk of nerve damage’ from the vibrations. Rumors about replacing the former Red Bull designer are already circulating, and Newey would even be leading the search.
