Lewis Hamilton is much more optimistic at the Grand Prix starts in 2026 after a disappointing debut season at Ferrari. The British world champion was completely worn out after the recent Abu Dhabi GP, after he hadn’t made a single trip to the podium for a whole year. However, Hamilton was able to turn the switch during the winter break, and now reveals how he approaches the races in the new year.
“I think it’s simply a matter of a different attitude”, the Ferrari driver tells the media in Japan. “I simply don’t let myself be distracted by all the nonsense being talked around me anymore, so that I can continue to see who I really am. And what I can do. Hopefully you saw that during the last two races, especially the last one in China. I will continue to work for the rest of the year to show that. I haven’t lost what I had. Regardless of what some of you (the media, ed.) or people who write about it will say, I will continue to show myself. I train harder than ever.”

‘I give everything I have’
According to the world champion, that is also what distinguishes him as a driver. “Last year I was in Tokyo between this race and the previous race. I ran about a hundred kilometers. None of the drivers I race against have trained as hard as I have. I give everything I have. Especially at my age. I think that’s great. I still have that drive to push myself.” Hamilton admits that he lost his confidence last year, but has found it again this season. “That is, in my opinion, the ultimate test for an athlete: whether you can deliver. And become the best again. And keep trying. That’s how you show what you have in you.”
