Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali reveals which two improvements he would like to address for the Miami GP. The F1 boss is dependent on the FIA for this and hopes that the governing body will implement regulation changes regarding qualifying and safety for the next Grand Prix. Domenicali himself appreciates the ongoing discussion: ‘If we talk about something, I always find that great’.

The new Formula 1 cars for 2026 remain a controversial point of discussion within the premier class. Even after three Grands Prix, drivers’ opinions are still divided between those who find no driving pleasure in the new cars – like Max Verstappen – and drivers who are fans of the new way of racing – like Lewis Hamilton.

The call for regulation changes became very loud after Oliver Bearman’s heavy crash at Suzuka. The FIA immediately promised to review the regulations and scheduled several meetings. F1 boss Stefano Domenicali revealed in an interview with Autosport on which two areas he especially hopes the FIA will take steps before the Miami GP.

Two improvement points

“Hopefully the FIA will announce before Miami which adjustments will be made to address mainly two points,” Domenicali explains. “First, qualifying – to be able to drive as much as possible at full power or with full braking, whatever it may be. And secondly, of course, to ensure that certain safety concerns raised by drivers are properly addressed.”

Regarding qualifying, Domenicali added: “That is an area we have been working on in recent weeks, together with the drivers and teams, of course coordinated by the FIA, to see what the right adjustment could be.” According to the F1 CEO, the talks about regulation changes are generally going well. “If we talk about something, I always see that as great because it leads to a constructive discussion. What I don’t like are people who like to criticize. By the way, I don’t know why. Criticism for the sake of criticism helps no one and really has no effect.”
