Bad weather is forecast for Sunday. Meanwhile, the FIA is considering all scenarios, including moving the race to a better time, for example in the morning. On a street circuit where water drainage has often been a problem, a heavy shower can make the difference between control and complete chaos.

During the FIA press conference in Miami, Oscar Piastri looked notably curious about those possible conditions. The McLaren driver expects that the combination of new cars and rain will bring extra challenges. “It will be interesting no matter what. I don’t think many of us have driven these new cars in the rain, maybe a few people during the shakedown in Barcelona when it rained,” said Piastri.

He emphasizes that the current generation of cars still has to prove itself in wet conditions:
“But I suspect they are difficult cars to drive in the rain, precisely because of some quirks they have. And when it rains in Miami, it really rains. So we’ll see. But it will be interesting no matter what.”
