Arvid Lindblad crashed during Pirelli’s tire test at Suzuka. The driver, along with teammate Liam Lawson and Red Bull’s Isack Hadjar, was allowed to evaluate the rubber, including the wet tires, for 2027 for the Italian tire supplier, while it started pouring at Suzuka after a dry Japanese GP. Unfortunately, Lindblad could not drive his car back to the garage in one piece: due to aquaplaning, he ended up in the barriers.

Arvid Lindblad is currently in his first season in Formula 1. The Racing Bulls driver immediately took four World Championship points in his debut race in Australia, putting him level with his predecessor Isack Hadjar in the drivers’ championship. Like his fellow drivers, the rookie now has to wait until May for the next Grand Prix, but was already given the chance by Pirelli in Suzuka after the race to drive a few extra test laps.
Unfortunately for Lindblad, his tire test did not go entirely smoothly. Due to aquaplaning, the rookie lost control of the steering wheel and hit the barriers with his VCARB03. After the cancelled tire test in Bahrain, Pirelli decided to take advantage of the predicted rain at Suzuka to test the wet tires and intermediates. Photos show that the front wing is no longer attached to Lindblad’s VCARB03 after the crash. The rookie was later able to get back into the car and finish his test.

Red Bull and Racing Bulls
Lindblad is not the only Racing Bulls driver testing the 2027 tires at Suzuka. On the first day, his teammate Liam Lawson and Red Bull’s Isack Hadjar, in the RB22, also drove on the new tires. On day two, it was Lindblad’s turn and Hadjar’s again. Max Verstappen is not present at Suzuka. Red Bull and Racing Bulls are the only two teams testing the tires for Pirelli.
