With a special ceremony, McLaren celebrated the team’s thousandth GP in Monaco on Thursday, with a role for current world champion Lando Norris. He has driven for McLaren more often than any other driver for the team. “A great honor,” says the Englishman.

“It was my dream to drive in Formula 1, and preferably for McLaren,” Norris recalls from his past. “For something like that to come true is already amazing. And the fact that I’ve driven a race more often than any other driver is a crazy idea. I’m not really into statistics, but this is a nice one. To see your own name among all those great names who have driven for McLaren is special.
McLaren brought the current car together with the very first car on Thursday afternoon, which created special scenes. One of the former drivers present was, for example, Mika Häkkinen. The Finnish McLaren legend was even allowed to get in and put the old car through its paces on the track.

Norris also enjoyed it, as he says he is always aware of his team’s rich history. “That I get to be part of McLaren’s success is an honor, truly,” he says. “I feel lucky and I will do my best to help this team win races and championships for years to come.”
