Cadillac clarifies cause of Pérez front suspension collapse: ‘Seemed worse than it was’

Cadillac team principal Graeme Lowdon reassures Sergio Pérez: the collapse of his right front suspension in Canada seemed much more dramatic than it actually was. The Mexican suffered significant damage to the component after it suddenly appeared to collapse on the way to the pit lane. However, Lowdon is not afraid of a recurrence in Monaco: ‘We understand the main cause and it has already been addressed’.

Sergio Pérez entered the pit lane on lap 39 of the Canadian GP, when at that moment his right front suspension failed. The Mexican was shocked because the damage seemed to come out of nowhere. However, Cadillac team principal Graeme Lowdon reassures his driver: the right front suspension did not just suddenly break.

‘Looked more dramatic than it was’

“Regarding the problem Checo had in Montreal, we understand very well what happened there,” the team principal begins to various media. “It looked significantly more dramatic in the footage from the car where you saw quite a bit flying around – those were mainly brake parts. There was already a defect leading up to it and once the brakes were applied, there is nothing that holds the brakes at the required level, so you end up with something that looks quite dramatic at the end.”

“But we understand the main cause and it is something that has already been addressed,” the team principal reassures. Lowdon is therefore not afraid of a recurrence during the next Grand Prix on the narrow streets of Monte Carlo. “So if the question was ‘are we worried about Monaco after this incident’, the answer is no. I think almost every team has experienced something similar in the past, so I don’t think it was anything too extraordinary.”
