Jos Verstappen responds to Steiner after criticism of son Max: ‘That’s why you are no longer a team principal’

Jos Verstappen has strongly reacted to statements from former Haas team principal Guenther Steiner. The Italian recently suggested that Max Verstappen would be much more positive about the current Formula 1 regulations if he were winning races.

Steiner made his remarks on The Red Flags Podcast. There he stated that Verstappen, if he were leading the championship, would probably call the current rules the best ever. Those words clearly struck a nerve with father Jos Verstappen. He responded under a social media post sharing Steiner’s statements:
“Hi Guenther. I understand why you are no longer an F1 team principal. The way you talk.”

Max Verstappen critical for some time

Max Verstappen himself has been critical for some time about the direction Formula 1 is taking with the technical regulations. After the Miami Grand Prix, a principle agreement was reached between the FIA and engine manufacturers to adjust the distribution of engine power from 50/50 to 60/40. That news prompted Verstappen to confirm ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix that he will remain active in the sport at least until 2027.

However, that proposed change seems far from certain. The plans are under pressure and it is still unclear whether they will actually be implemented. Verstappen expressed criticism about this again after qualifying in Montreal: “If it stays like this, next year will be a long year, and I don’t want that. I can tell you: if it stays like this, we’ll see. Mentally, it’s just not doable for me to continue like this. Really not.”
