Max Verstappen is anything but satisfied with the course of his qualifying for the GP Canada. The Dutchman only managed to secure sixth place on the grid, mainly due to the lack of speed on the straights. Why the RB22 lacked pace specifically there, Verstappen is not yet sure: ‘The harder I drove there, the slower I went.’

With sixth place on the grid for the Grand Prix on Sunday in Montreal, Max Verstappen qualified one position higher than for the sprint race on the same circuit. Yet, for the Dutch world champion, disappointment due to the lack of pace predominates.
“During every lap I drove, it was the same story: the harder I drove, the slower I went on the straights,” Verstappen told Viaplay. “In the corners, I had to make up the lap time again. I also have no idea if we as a team did everything right. I asked a few times but heard nothing back.” According to Verstappen, Red Bull was also at a loss regarding the disappointing pace on the straights.

‘It is what it is’
On the other side of the garage, at Verstappen’s teammate Isack Hadjar, the tone was different. The French-Algerian driver indicated that he actually felt good in the RB22. “I tried something different with the car, the team wanted that. So I said: ‘Okay, that’s fine.’ But that was clearly not right. That was to be expected, but now we know for sure. The team was certain it would work (a different setup, ed.), but clearly it doesn’t. It is what it is,” sighed the four-time world champion.
