Hope springs eternal, also in Formula 1. And thus also at Red Bull, among Verstappen fans, and with engine partner Ford. After the third place in Montreal, for example, hope for a first GP victory this season was heard from several of those corners. An understandable wish, but it is not yet realistic. Verstappen also underlined this when asked.

“A lot still needs to happen for a victory. Let’s stick to the facts, we are still too slow to win right now. And I think that will be the case here in Monaco too.” Verstappen cannot go much faster with the RB22 than he is currently doing, it turns out. “I think this is simply the limit of what we have at the moment.”

He therefore sees others as candidates for the top spots.

“Ferrari has a better chance in that regard,” he says. “If you look at the last few races, Ferrari is extremely strong in slow corners. So I think they will be very good here, that’s the feeling I have.”
